A Critical Analysis of Leadership Competencies and Organizational Productivity in Nigerian Public Institutions
Leadership competencies have become a global concern for organizations, owing to the vital role they play in ensuring productivity and institutional success. In Nigeria, the mystery surrounding leadership competencies continues to re-emerge year after year. This study examines the specific leadership competencies that influence organizational productivity in Nigerian public institutions. It assesses the relationship between different leadership styles and organizational performance, identifies challenges hindering effective leadership, and proposes strategies to enhance leadership effectiveness. Using a content analysis approach, this conceptual paper advocates for further research into leadership models tailored to the unique challenges of the Nigerian public sector. It also calls for the institutionalization of leadership competencies through policy reforms, training programs, and structural adjustments.
